"To empower people with integral education for realisation of self and well being of nation."

A group of young college going students when decided to do something for a social cause, various ideas knocked the doors of their minds, may it be providing food, clothing or other material to the underprivileged sections. However, the thought was to bring out a sustainable change and not a temporary help.

Being a group of students, all of them thought to use ‘Education’ as a weapon to begin with this mission.

Initially the work began with finding a slum community. At first, a community named Shahunagar in Karvenagar area of Pune city was finalized. It all began with various games and fun activities with the students. Where the classroom shifted from a shadow of a tree, Ganpati festival set-up, cow shed and hence a corridor before entering into a room made up of tin metal sheets.

What started as a mere initiative to help the students with their academics, later grew to an organization with a full fledged structure. The journey was full of various ups and downs where various issues such as non-availability of classrooms, finances, community clashes, etc. were fiercely faced by the team along with some priceless achievements of being able to reach the students beyond their schools and academics.

What began in one community as an initiative is now an NGO working in 3 communities with an aim of holistic education and development of the students residing there.

” To empower people with integral education for realisation of self and well being of nation.”

Keeping this aim in mind, our organisation works in three communities in the Karvenagar area of Pune viz. Sambhanagar, Shivane Gosavi Community and Kamana Vasahat.

N.Y.A.A.S.S. is a youth organization which believes in revolution with the strongest weapon of Education, sharpened by integrity and passion. This passion in the youth group of N.Y.A.A.S.S. does not restrict itself only to the formal education sector, but goes beyond that and includes the development of the personalities of our upcoming generations to serve the best with their interests towards our nation.

We at N.Y.A.A.S.S believe that education should be unique in a way that it prospers the unique identities of all the students. Once an individual is able to know itself, then and only then can it aspire to the changes needed in the surrounding/society/nation.

Education model of NYAASS -

  1. We treat education like industrial manufacturing when, in reality, it’s closer to organic farming. In farming, crops have different needs at different times in order to produce the greatest yield.

Health: Promoting the development and well-being of the whole student, intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially.

Ecology: Recognizing the vital interdependence of all of these aspects of development, within each student and the community as a whole

Fairness: Cultivating the individual talents and potential of all students, whatever their circumstances and respects the roles and responsibilities of those who work with them. Creating optimum conditions for students’ development, based on compassion, experience, and practical wisdom

A holistic methodology seeks to help children develop all their skills and to build their strengths.  As such, this educational approach is inclined towards play-based learning, children’s creativity, and their imagination. The result is a child who develops better communication and social skills, and better confidence. They feel good about learning and challenging themselves with certain subjects because these things offer positive associations. Intrinsic motivation, in turn, propels them to be curious, inquisitive, and eventually be innovative adults in the workplace.

  1. In a traditional teacher-centered model, the instructor is the “imparter of knowledge” while students listen, and are corrected and evaluated on their performance. In a student-centered model, the playing field becomes leveled; the focus is on both the teachers and students. It opens the door to a multitude of possibilities for educational curricula.

The core role of a teacher is to facilitate learning. The concept of agility in teaching and learning nicely captures the idea that education has to be active, nimble and responsive. It conveys a sense of vitality rather than passivity.

  1. Activity-based learning encourages students to actively participate in their own learning experience through practical activities such as problem-solving and independent investigation.

We offer interactive learning forums based around:

Exploration – gathering knowledge and acquiring skills through active investigation.

Experimentation – gathering knowledge through experience.

Expression – encouraging kids to express their views through discussion.

  1. Standardized testing is designed to get every student to arrive at the same correct answer to a question, which encourages a sea of sameness. On the other hand, evaluation makes them realise what it is now and what upgradation needs to be done. The way standardized tests are used today, they do more to tell us what’s wrong with students by pointing out their inadequacies. evaluations do more to tell us what’s strong with students by helping them discover and develop their own unique talents.
